Captain's Library ADVENTURES OF JERRY LEWIS "Batman Meets Jerry" Part 3: Everybody's Doing the Kangaroo Hop!

(BTW: Did you know Jerry was the first celeb to pop out of a window during the "Bat-Climb" sequences on the TV show?)
All you need know is that, "inspired" (and that's being generous) by the Batman tv series, Jerry and his nephew, Renfrew become RatMan and Rotten.
Meanwhile, a petty criminal, also "inspired" by the show, becomes The Kangaroo...perhaps the most inept costumed criminal in history...
Didn't expect real Batman villians to show up, did you?
The text feature (probably written by Arnold Drake) also talked about Bat-Mania...
Well, that wraps up our "Jerry Lewis meets DC" blogathon.
Hope you enjoyed it!

Captain's Library ADVENTURES OF JERRY LEWIS "Batman Meets Jerry" Part 2: RatMan Joins Batman

(Actually, we haven't seen this because the Carmine Infantino/Bob Oksner cover has nothing to do with the story!)
"Inspired" by the Batman tv series, Jerry's nephew, Refrew demands they become "RatMan and Rotten: the Boy Blunder"!
Also "inspired" by the tv show, a petty criminal and his son become "The Kangaroo and Gregory" and kidnap Renfrew, believing him to be a rich guy's son.
RatMan fails to stop them and has to be rescued by the Dynamic Duo...
Well, they addressed the "does everyone who watches the Batman tv series in this universe know Bruce Wayne is Batman?" matter!
Note: Batman drives the 1950s Batmobile, which the "New Look" Batman (with the yellow oval around his Bat-Symbol) never used!

Captain's Library ADVENTURES OF JERRY LEWIS "Batman Meets Jerry"

Heck, I'm not even gonna try to do an intro...
...because this never-reprinted tale is just too weird to explain...
As you might have guessed, this issue takes place during the heyday of the Batman tv series, but the concept here is that the show is just a tv show within DC's Earth-One universe!
Adventures of Jerry Lewis #97 (1966) writer Arnold Drake and artist Bob Oksner make the most of the situation, playing up the idea that the "real" Dynamic Duo have to go around undoing the harm hero-worshipping Bat-fans inadvertantly do!
Of course, it ignores the fact that the tv series has Bruce Wayne as Batman...
Will RatMan rescue Renfrew?
Will Batman and Robin have to rescue RatMan?

Captain's Library ADVENTURES OF JERRY LEWIS "Superman Meets Jerry" Conclusion

...wait a minute!
Why does Lex Luthor have hair...and a moustache?
Especially considering Superman's arch-enemy doesn't have them inside the comic?
Interestingly, Lex's wearing the colors he would adapt for his costume and battle-armor in the 1970s-80s!
And, yes, that's a Wayne Boring-rendered Superman flying above Bob Oksner's Luthor and Jerry!
As to the plot...if you have to ask the plotline to any Jerry Lewis movie (except King of Comedy), you're obviously not a Jerry Lewis fan!
But here goes...
Due to Luthor's machinations,  an overworked Superman's costume is coated with kryptonite dust.
When the Man of Steel discovers the reason for his ongoing weakness, he removes the costume and stows it in the hamper of an interviewee, Jerry's nephew Renfrew, whom he's interviewing as mild-mannered reporter Clark Kent!
Jerry discovers the suit, puts it on.
Luthor shows up.
Take it from there...
It didn't make much sense, but it was fun!

Captain's Library ADVENTURES OF JERRY LEWIS "Superman Meets Jerry" Part 1

It ain't exactly "When Titans Clash"...
...but it is a never-reprinted Silver Age meeting of two pop culture icons!
Are you ROTFL(your)AO yet?
Written by Arnold Drake, illustrated by Bob Oksner (with some modifications by Al Plastino) this non-canon tale from DC's Adventures of Jerry Lewis #105 (1968) solidifies what became an annual tradition from 1967 to 1970...Jerry meeting up with an established DC superstar!
We've previously run Lewis' encounters with The Flash and Wonder Woman, and next week we'll present the one that started this whole thing...the superstar comic's meeting with the 1960s Batman & Robin!
