Captain's Theatre: CONAN THE BARBARIAN the Audio Movie

From 1982, the audio adaptation of the first Conan the Barbarian movie (the one with "Ahnold").
Issued by Power Records, it's the rarest of all Conan audio adventures on LP records (and there are some HTF ones)!
Story elements indicate it was adapted from the same early version of the screenplay as Marvel's comic adaptation of the film.
And, while they couldn't use Basil Poledouris' superb music, they actually came up with a fairly acceptible substitute.
Enjoy!

Captain's Theatre: CAPTAIN AMERICA "A Phoenix Shall Arise!"

Here's the Power Records adaptation of Captain America & the Falcon #168, "A Phoenix Shall Arise!"

It's the only CA&F tale done by Power, and while it seems like an odd choice, the comic was doing primarily multi-issue stories and finding a complete-in-one tale during that period was difficult.
As it is, the script references a number of events from previous issues of both CA and Avengers!
Despite the problems, it's an exciting tale, well worth reading and listening to!
Written by Roy Thomas and Tony Isabella.
Illustrated by Sal Buscema (pencils) and John Tartaglione & George Roussos (inks).
Cover by Sal Buscema and John Verpoorten.

Captain's Theatre: SPACE: 1999 "Breakaway" (Power Records)

Space: 1999 debuted in 1975 with a major licensing push, including audio adventures, novelizations along with original novels, and comic books/b/w magazines.
Power Records, the premier children's audio line of the era did two lp record albums and two comic book/45 record adventures, including the pilot episode "Breakaway".
Charlton Comics published two different series, one as a standard comic book, the other a b/w magazine, both of which adapted the pilot episode with far different results.
With three different print adaptations (not including the prose novelization from Pocket Books), "Breakway" was the single most adapted sci-fi movie or tv show in history, until Battlestar Galactica came along in 1979.
Over the next three Mondays, we're going to present all three adaptations of "Breakaway".
First up, the Power Records version, complete with soundtrack!
(After all, it was meant as a read-along adventure!)

The writer who adapted the screenplay is unknown, but the art is by Rich Buckler, Dick Giordano, Frank McLaughlin, and Neal Adams' Continuity Studios crew.
Next Monday, the b/w magazine version.
