Captain's Library & Theatre ONE MILLION BC

Before One Million Years BC...

...there was One Million BC!

The 1966 Hammer film (whose comic adaptation we presented HERE and HERE) was an extensively-rewritten remake, but the character names and relationships are the same!

Like the remake, the original was a big-budget spectacular, though the original's dinosaur special effects were achieved by using animals with prosthetic attachments and stuntmen in costumes!
There was even a (never-reprinted) two-part comic adaptation of the film, which appeared in Dell's Crackajack Funnies 25 & 26 (1940) which we unearthed and now present for your enjoyment!

Sadly, the writer and artist (or writer/artist) is/are currently-unknown!

Bonus: the trailer for the movie!
Note: the trailer is colorized, the actual movie is b/w!

We Hope You've Enjoyed Our Month-Long Marathon of Dinosaur-Themed Movie/TV/Audio Productions and Their Tie-In Comics...but It's Not Over Yet!

Captain's Library & Theatre LAND UNKNOWN Conclusion

When Last We Left Our Heroes (and Assorted Dinosaurs)...

...a US Navy expedition to discover the source of a flow of warm water from under the Antarctic ice sheet discovers an oasis of tropical vegetation and not-as-extinct as they thought prehistoric creatures, as well as a survivor from a previous group!

Though the editors and color separators followed Alex Toth's suggestions for color effects, sometimes they went awry, making the art a little hard to follow.

For the sake of clarity, here's the original art for the  "serpent's" attack on the survivor of the earlier expedition, Hunter...

Bonus: the original trailer for the movie!

Captain's Library LAND UNKNOWN Part 1

Stories About Extinct Animals Surviving in Isolated Areas Go Back as Far as Fiction Itself...

..including Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Lost World, Edgar Rice Burroughs' Land That Time Forgot and even the original King Kong!

You really didn't think we'd break away before you saw a dinosaur, did you?

To Be Continued, Tomorrow, at Seduction of the Innocent!

Adapted from the film's original script by writer Robert Ryder (his only mainstream comics credit) and artist Alex Toth for Dell's Four Color #845 (1957).

Toth took a lot of care with this project, including suggesting color effects for certain panels as shown by the original art above, which you can compare to the printed version!

Note: the movie was shot and released in black & white, so Toth's ideas about color effects are his own (pretty damn good) concepts!
